What is BOTOX®?

FDA approved in 2002, BOTOX® is a therapeutic protein solution that is renowned for its natural-looking results. This unique formulation is one of the most extensively tested treatments of its kind on the aesthetic market, and it is currently one of the most popular options for non-surgical wrinkle reduction worldwide. BOTOX is FDA approved for the treatment of frown lines, forehead and crow’s feet.

How Does BOTOX® Work?

As the skin ages, two different kinds of wrinkles appear – static and dynamic. BOTOX® targets the dynamic wrinkles that develop in the forehead area as a result of repeated muscle contractions in the face over time, such as crows feet and frown lines. These visible signs of aging can cause you to look constantly tired or angry, but a treatment plan with BOTOX® can help rejuvenate your overall appearance.

BOTOX® is injected directly into the facial muscles, where the protein solution temporarily blocks nerve signals from causing dynamic wrinkles. This causes the skin to smooth, adding alertness back to your brow area.

Common areas that can be treated with BOTOX®:

Frown Lines
These vertical lines form between the eyebrows as a result of repeated facial expressions, like frowning. BOTOX® reduces the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, like frown lines, by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles and preventing them from contracting.

Forehead Lines
Also known as surprise lines, these lines are the horizontal lines found on the forehead that form as a result of repeated facial movement like raising the eyebrows or making surprised expressions. We can soften and reduce the appearance of forehead lines by using BOTOX® to relax the targeted muscles and reduce their ability to contract.

BOTOX Brow Lift
A temporary brow lift can be performed using BOTOX® to lift eyebrows. The muscles in the outer brow that can create a hooded or tired appearance. This minimally- invasive, non-surgical treatment can lift the brows for three to six months and has little to no downtime associated with it.

BOTOX Crows Feet
Crow’s feet are the fine lines and wrinkles that form around the eyes as a result of repeated use of the facial muscles due to facial expressions like smiling. We can use BOTOX® to treat these fine lines and reduce their appearance for up to four months.

BOTOX for Bunny Lines
Bunny lines are small diagonal lines that form right below the bridge on either side of the nose. These lines form as a result of repeated facial movements, like wrinkling your nose when you laugh. We can reduce the appearance of bunny lines by injecting BOTOX® into the affected muscles on either side of the nose, which causes the muscles to relax and softens the appearance of bunny lines for three to four months.

BOTOX for Gummy Smile
A “gummy smile” is a smile that shows a large portion of the upper gums and places more emphasis on the gums than the teeth, which can create an unbalanced smile. A gummy smile usually occurs as a result of a hyper-mobile upper lip, an upper lip that lifts more than usual when a person smiles, or an upper lip that lacks fullness. BOTOX® can be used to relax the muscles in the upper lip and create a more balanced and even smile.

BOTOX Masseter/BOTOX for TMJ
We can reduce the appearance of a square jaw by injecting BOTOX® in jaw or masseter muscle to relax it and reduce its thickness. Reducing the size of the masseter muscle will allow us to create a more angular appearance and make the face appear less square.

BOTOX for Neck Bands
Are you interested to improve or get rid of the annoying neck bands?
In the mid 40s neck bands also called platysmal bands start to appear with vertical lines in the upper and lower parts of the neck, pulling the lower part of the chin down, giving the impression of a “double chin”. As the soft tissue of the neck loses volume over time these bands become thicker and stronger and more and more prominent. The platysmal bands are particularly obvious in photos or in people who are in front of the camera. Fortunately Botox for neck bands works to even out the muscles that hold the neck up.

BOTOX is injected in mall doses directly into the platysmal muscles relaxing these muscles. This procedure is routinely done at Body Systems Wellness Regenerative Medicine by Shahen Kurestian. It takes about 15 minutes to complete and there is no down time.

Are There Any BOTOX Side Effects?

Most patients return to normal activities immediately after receiving BOTOX® treatments. Some slight bruising, redness, and swelling is common at injection sites, but these should subside within a day or so. Major complications are rare, and patients are advised to avoid rubbing or massaging treated areas afterward in order to maintain full results. It is also recommended to avoid bending for 4-6 hours after BOTOX injection to avoid flowing of BOTOX in other areas.

Results may vary, and multiple treatment sessions may be necessary in order to fully achieve your aesthetic goals. During your consultation with our medical team, your individual condition and expectations will be assessed, and a customized treatment plan will be created to outline what you can expect during the treatment process.

The truth is, everyone’s lines form differently. The timing can be influenced by a combination of factors, from cellular changes that may occur over time, to reduction of collagen, to genetic factors, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment.

Whenever your lines start to bother you, go speak with your doctor. They can help you determine if treatment is right for you.
